Records from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office show that Apple (AAPL) last week was assigned the iPad trademark, which previously was controlled by Fujitsu. (The story has been widely reported this afternoon; the filing seems to have been discovered first by the Patent Authority blog.)

The filing does not say if any compensation was paid to Fujitsu for handing over rights to the iPad name.
