Facebook Sets Email Service; Facebook.com Addresses For Users

Facebook today expanded its email service, jumping into a crowded market that already includes Google (GOOG) Gmail, Microsoft (MSFT) Hotmail and Yahoo (YHOO) Mail. The company will offer a facebook.com email address to users, based on their Facebook user names.

TechShop gets $1.7M to expand workshops for inventors

TechShop, a chain of membership-based workshops offering tools and equipment, has raised $1.7 million of an expected $4 million in equity, according to a filing with the SEC.

Based in Menlo Park, Calif., the company offers tools like 3D printers, laser cutters and woodworking tools to individual members for about $100 per month. TechShop currently has locations in Menlo Park and Raleigh, North Carolina, but the chain plans to expand to two dozen cities in the next two years, Bloomberg reports. Last December, TechShop announced plans to open a San Francisco workshop in a former San Francisco Chronicle building near 5th and Howard Streets.

Founded in 2006, the company expects to make $1.1 million in revenue this year.

Based in San Francisco, Trooval’s software helps companies predict a visitor’s buying potential in real-time. The only information required for analysis is the consumer’s name and contact information. The company also offers an online marketing platform to the timeshare industry.

Involver grabs $7M more for social marketing platform

Involver, a startup that helps brands manage social media channels, has raised $7M in equity, options, warrants or other securities, according to a filing with the SEC. The company also raised $1.6 million late last month.

Based in San Francisco, Involver helps more than 80,000 brands manage their online communities on sites like Facebook. The startup was founded in 2007 and has raised $10 million to date.
